WHAT IS
MENOPAUSE?
1

WHAT IS MENOPAUSE?

Menopause is a significant stage of life. Symptoms can vary from person to person, but experts define menopause as occurring 12 months after your last period of menstruation, marking the end of menstrual cycles.

2
WHAT HAPPENS
DURING MENOPAUSE?
2

WHAT HAPPENS DURING MENOPAUSE?

As menopause sets in, ovarian activity ceases and hormonal production slows down. The loss of estrogen can have significant effects on your physical and emotional well-being such as: hot flashes, sweating, mood swings and fast aging skin. These symptoms are often exacerbated by insomnia and fatigue.

OF MENOPAUSE?

WHAT ARE THE INVISIBLE SYMPTOMS OF MENOPAUSE?

Menopause can also increase your risk of developing certain other symptoms. Women can have a loss of calcium from the bone. It can be responsible for significant decrease in bone density leading to osteoporosis and increasing the risk of sudden and unexpected fractures. It’s essential to make healthy lifestyle choices to compensate.

WILL MENOPAUSE
IMPACT MY SKIN?

HOW WILL MENOPAUSE IMPACT MY SKIN?

Hormonal slowdown also affects the skin during menopause. Our skin loses up to 90% of its natural “youth hormone” called DHEA and as consequence:

Skin becomes much drier, less radiant
Loss of skin density and defined contours
Loss of elasticity around neck,
cheek bones and jawline

NUTRITION

GET MORE CALCIUM!

As estrogen levels decrease, our bones don’t absorb calcium as well. It is important to consume at least 1 200 mg per day - add dairy products at each meal!

ANTIOXIDANTS ARE ESSENTIAL

for the prevention of certain cancers and cardiovascular events. They can be found in the flavonoids of tea and wine, and in fruits and vegetables.

SAY YES TO SOY!

Soy food such as tofu and soy nuts often provide relief from menopausal symptoms. They contain plant-based estrogen which acts similarly to human estrogen in the body.

LIFESTYLE

EXERCISE EVERY DAY FOR AT LEAST A FEW MINUTES!

Physical activity is essential to reduce the risk of heart disease and relieve stress. Aim for a total of 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week.

MAINTAIN A REGULAR BEDTIME SCHEDULE,

including going to bed at the same time every night. It may ease sleep problems during menopause.

DO NOT SKIP MEALS!

Eating at consistently regular times, 3 times a day, is essential to avoid snacking. Menopause changes women’s bodies. It is essential to adapt your diet to counteract these effects and ensure that you eat in a more varied and balanced manner.

SKINCARE

« IT’S TIME TO ADAPT YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE! With menopause and hormonal slowdown, your skin faces changes, such as loss of density and elasticity. Your skincare routine needs to be able to compensate the effects of menopause on your skin. » Rayelyn Izzo, Beauty Boutique Manager at Shoppers Drug Mart, Calgary

« CONSIDER ADDING A SERUM OR ENRICHING OIL to your routine day and night! This additional step will not only help with instant radiance and comfort, but also boost the efficacy of your day and night cream ingredients! » Tera White, Cosmetic Manager at Shoppers Drug Mart, West Kelowna

« REMOVE MAKEUP CAREFULLY. This must be a ritual every night if you want a fresh complexion the next morning. Due to the loss of lipids in your skin during menopause, adapt as well your cleansing routine with an oil cleanser or a richer texture. » Amilee Hagon, Beauty expert at Shoppers Drug Mart, Calgary

I was impressed!

I liked it! Easy to apply...a little goes a long way! After the initial try I was impressed when I noticed how supple my skin had become, especially given the horrendous humidity we've been having. I'd recommend this for everyone looking G to give that glow to their tired skin.
